Agency. The Central Bank of India has been increasing the use of digital currency, e-Rupee. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) started testing it for the first time two months ago. India's central bank digital currency (CBDC) seems to be gaining traction with mainstream users, with Reliance Retail, the country's largest retailer, now announcing that it will accept e-Rupees.

Reliance, along with ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Fintech Innovation Technologies, has informed that transactions have started through CBDC from Thursday in its Freshpick stores. It is said that goods can be purchased from e-Rupee in other Reliance supermarkets across the country. Customers who want to transact with digital currency can pay by scanning the QR code.

Payment can be made after downloading the mobile wallet prepared by RBI and buying digital money from various banks and depositing it in the wallet. The bank says that money can be paid without internet. Digital currency (CBDC), which has the same value as paper cash, was initially used only among certain groups in New Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Mumbai and Bangalore. Eight banks, including State Bank of India, this bank, participated in the test of e-Rs.

Expanding the said test further, Reliance has made e-Rupee valid in all its grocery stores. E-Rupee, which is considered as a digital form of cash currency, has not yet been fully implemented. RBE is still continuing the test of e-Rupee in the wholesale market.
